Why Go Digital?by Sandeep KumarOnce you've captured the images, digital photographs are in a format, which makes them very easy to save, use and distribute. Some of the immediate uses for digital photograph, which come to mind, are: 1.Insert digital photos into text, spreadsheet or word-processing documents 2.Send digital photos by e-mail to friends, business contacts or use them in your online journal 3.Post digital photos on websites 4.Connect your digital camera to a television set and present your own slide show 5.Connect a digital camera to a microscope or telescope for a dramatic presentation on movie or television screen 6.Use digital photographs to create unique and exciting gifts. 7.Use digital photography to record heritage and archival material. Digital cameras can save you money, particularly if you are an avid photographer 1.You don't need to buy roll after roll of film and then pay exorbitant costs for developing the pictures. You still can choose to use a digital photo print service to develop your digital photos 2.You no longer need to make two separate trips to the photo-processing store--once to drop off your film and the second to pick-up the developed prints. 3.With a digital camera, you can instantly check the results of your picture. You may be able to salvage a faulty result with a repeat shot, instead of waiting for days to see your photos in print, only to be disappointed with the results. 4.You can view and edit pictures to perfection before you print them. 5.You are helping to protect the environment, because digital photography doesn't introduce toxic chemicals into streams, rivers and lakes during the printing process. 6.You no longer lose part of a roll of undeveloped film because you just couldn't wait to see how a picture turned out. Digital cameras are becoming much more than just cameras. They are more like multimedia recording devices. Not only do we use digital photos to record still life, some digital photography equipment can record both audio and video With the use of an online digital photo service or a home photo-editing program you can improve or alter digital photographs in addition to displaying and distributing them. For example, you can remove red-eye, crop them, change colors, and add or delete features. It's like having your very own darkroom without the chemicals. Another less-considered aspect of digital photography is the new freedom to explore creative photography. We don't have to hire a pack mule to carry our glass plate negatives around when looking for photographic subjects, but with a traditional camera we would be likely to at least ask ourselves the question: "Is this picture worth the expense?" While we are considering the cost/reward aspects of the picture, the opportunity to capture the image may disappear. We've lost the opportunity for spontaneity. Digital photography gives us endlessly reusable film. Let the children try some shots, look at things in new ways and throw away all your preconceived notions about how to take a good photograph. The results may surprise you. The results may also give you a better image of yourself and your creative ability. About the Author Copyright of Sandeep, web designer and content writer for GK Vale |
